Becky Smyllie works as an artist/events coordinator and focuses on public engagement. As a volunteer for a small community group called ArtAnon, Smyllie aims to provide creative workshops for existing groups and the general public in Manchester. The workshops aim to promote artistic expression and hope to build confidence by creating public displays of collaborative art work. Smyllie is also part of an artists' collective called Juncture, a new group of graduates based in Manchester. Her work uses drawing techniques and body-painting to explore pattern and colour within a chosen focus.
Becky Smyllie graduated from BA(Hons) Embroidery at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2013. Since then she has continued to work with ArtAnon, which was originally a fundraising project, to establish it as an arts-focused community group. ArtAnon secured funding for International Women's Day 2014 and this became the beginning of ArtAnon, as it is today. Smyllie is starting a MA in Arts Management, Policy and Practice at The University of Manchester, in September 2014 and aims to continue working on pubic engagement within the arts.
